The hallways were full of an odd nostalgia for Don, but the sickening feeling in his stomach gave him little time to even reflect on what he was doing. The last time he was at the school, it was to discuss an end to the lawsuit, the school clear that they never wanted to see him near the campus again as part of the deal.

Yet here he was, searching around campus for any familiar faces despite the possible legal ramifications. Perhaps he really was going crazy, after all. Shelly broke up with him, he started drinking again, and he somehow talked to his rapist without breaking down like he always thought he would.

And, of course, he was looking for a dick loving faggot that messed up his life on a campus he was legally banned from.

Still, Don knew he had to do this, despite how little it made sense. He wouldn’t be able to rest until he at least tried talking to Ras, to figure out what was going on with that man.

When none of the old phone numbers for his contacts at college worked; and he got impatient waiting for an email back, Don was out the door before he could think too hard about it.

“Don? Don Mill, is that you?” Don tensed up at the sound of Mrs. Peggs’ voice. She was one of the college’s English teachers that hated his guts even before the lawsuit. She didn’t sound happy to see him.

“What on Earth are you doing here? Are you stupid enough to forget what ‘banned’ means?” she demanded, walking straight up to him, acting tough even though her five foot frame was quite a bit shorter than Don’s own six foot three.

“No, Mrs. Peggs, there’s one of my tenants here and-.”

“Of course your tenants are here, they’re all too young to understand what a horrible person you are,” Mrs. Peggs interrupted Don, trying his patience. He didn’t want to stand there talking, he had to find Ras before he left again, maybe this time for good. Don swallowed hard at that though, heart picking up its pace. Looking around, though, he only saw the normal and undiversified student body walking around. No sign of Ras. Did Ras see him and run away again?

Was he too late?

“Excuse me, Mr. Mills, but are you even listening to me?” Don took a deep breath, trying to not blow up at the one person who could help him or, as she probably preferred, have him escorted off the campus.

“I’m sorry, Mrs. Peggs, but I’m actually worried that he might …be in trouble and I wanted to make sure he was okay,” Don said, trying to keep an eye on everyone in the halls while still at least pretending to listen to Mrs. Peggs.

“What? How can I be sure that he didn’t just skip out on his bills and you’re here to collect on his debt? Why should I help you?” Don’s eye twitched, knowing he was getting nowhere with this stubborn woman in front of him.
